Loved it, disturbed me and that finale left me in shock, it reminded me a bit of Funny Games. I didn't thought it was pretentious or anything, it sets the mood for what Yorgos Lanthimos's films usually are (with the exception of The Favourite. It's not for everybody, but i will say that if you wanna give it a shot, do it, cause it's really worth it.

Now however you define god is irrelevant as in the universe of the film martin represents a force that is all present and in total control of every aspect. The film touches greatly on agency and free will/determinism but does not give answers. In a world with an all powerful being that can seemingly will things to happen, why would this circumstance arise in the first place? Why the challenge and need for revenge? This is the existential tragedy of the film and of actual reality. Whether god exists or not, your agency and choice are seemingly so significant but logically they appear no more then an evolutionary illusion to give purpose where there is none. Theres a lot of imagery of hands that imply actions the characters take and how these actions are essentially and abstraction of their character. Again, agency. Martin asks of Steven one thing; to make a choice. Steven takes a few opportunities in the film to deny Martin and as does Kim by eating her fries first which is exactly how Martin would not. Gestures against Martin are the best these people can do. Anyways, so Martin demand Steven make a choice to kill a child and seemingly Steven removes agency by adding what could appear to be random chance-putting a bag on his head and spinning in circles shooting a gun with his family tied around him. Really, is that removing agency though? And who does Steven obviously favour less then anyone else in the family? Thats right. Little bob. The tragedy in this is Steven now has the guilt of knowing he killed the child he would have killed anyways had he not wore that hat over his eyes. Extra fact, Robert(long form of bob) means illuminated and chosen. It was always going to be bob. Martin knew it. He was forcing Stevens hand. So, is this agency? Do you choose anything you do in your life? Is your guilt really yours or does the universe just pull you around. I could really go on but Whatever. Thats what I got from the film.

I instantly loved this film! Maybe it was the fact that I did see the longer version which was not quite as fragmented. However, I think that it was just the fact that the movie so perfectly captured the atmosphere of the book. If you read the book you will find that it is just as confusing as the movie, at least at first. You get only a vague feeling of what is happening until the middle when everything clicks.
I also thought that the casting was wonderful! Kyle MacLachlan as Paul was wonderful and the casting of Sting as Feyd Rabaan was inspired! I had always pictured Feyd as a rock star personality who was extremely violent and flamboyant. Patrick Stewart (who I always love) was a treat even in his minor role.
Overall, it was a great movie if you just let the movie do its work and accept the discrepancies.

I watched it because when I was in elementary school I had a Dune lunch box yet I had no clue that it was a movie or what it even about. Pretty disappointed to finally watch it. Just awful sci fi. I never read the book so I imagine had I done so first the movie might have made more sense to me.

Thinking about how Charlize went from Eileen Wareness to Megyn Kelly. Omfg she can play anybody convincingly. I know this is going to sound naive, but back in 2017 when the #metoo movement started. I had NO idea sexual harassment and sexual assault in the workplace were that serious of a problem. How wrong I turned out to be!
Bombshell is an excellent film, focusing on a powerful tycoon at Fox news and his sexual harassment and assault of numerous female employees. The performances by Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Kate Mckinnon and John Lithgow are all excellent.
This kind of topic is something very uncomfortable to discuss, depending on who you are, because in this world Men still hold a little too much power for their own good, and they don't always use it for good purposes. Women are still being victimized, and men are still victimizing women in the workplace. There's also the subject discussed of how dangerous it is to be gay and work at a place that primarily supports conservative views.
Nicole Kidman portrays Gretchen Carlson, a courageous woman seeking to expose what's going on behind closed doors. Charlize Theron's portrayal of Megyn Kelly is excellent. Charlize is a wonderful actress and her portrayal of the real-life woman is absolutely spot on. Margot Robbie, Kate Mckinnon and John Lithgow are also excellent in their roles.
Bombshell is a truly powerful movie. I hope that in years to come, movies like this are yet another nail in the coffin of things like sexual harassment and gender discrimination.
